Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Fourth drain and fill on my 2006 V70 in the last 20k miles (now at 155k). Stretched this one out to 7.5k miles and still a nice red. Next one in 15k miles. Seems like cheap insurance. Steering rack leak seems to have reduced to a couple of drips. Need to rotate the tires next weekend or put the wint...

Re: Volvo P2 used market

I'm actually intrigued by the number of 2001 and 2002 P2's I see listed in the Greater Boston area...many with over 200k. Should I successfully hand off my V70 to my soon-to-be-of-age children, I will likely be in the hunt for a 2006-2007 XC70 or XC90. I've only been part of the "community" for abou...

Climate Temp Sensor Fan Stays Running?

All, Figured I'd start a new thread for this one. After replacing the little temp sensor fan (pic attached) and verifying that the CCM can now control the cabin temp appropriately, I came back to the car several hours later and noticed a faint hum. That little fan is running all the time, even when ...

Picked up a CCM from a 2006 S60 (along with some non-wrinkled a-pillar covers) from the local salvage yard and installed the climate control fan off it into my wagon. Seems to be working as intended over a 30 minute test drive.

Re: Interesting Climate Control Behavior Topic is solved

Based on the readings from my thermometer, with a knob setting of 72 (right in the middle), there was a steady rise in temp from 46F to 127F over the first 12 minutes of driving around, then the temp began to drop, getting to 81F by 22 minutes of driving. Now that the weather has turned colder here in New England, I have found that my climate control isn't working as expected. Perhaps I spoke too soon in January :). In my case, the long torx was necessary as all the torx sockets I had of that size were 1/2" drive and too short - no way they were going to clear. Completely worth the $7 I spent on that long torx. You make it too complex. Just cut a 10-mm socket (dremel or angle grinder) short and it will fit. See the link I posted previously. Maybe I haven't yet cut it short enough. The original one on the left is 22.4mm, the right (the one I cut down) is 17.1mm. Head of the bolt is about 5mm long. Right no...

Here's a great view of the challenge. Bolt is hidden behind the bump out on the lower right of the thermostat housing. You are limited to the right by the top sensor bolt, you can't come from under the bump out and the bottom of the intake manifold blocks you as well. Crows foot flare wrench has bee...

Or a flare crows foot. Most of the non-flare wrench style have faces that are parallel to the flats of the square hole for the extension. Some crows foot ones are offset slightly...maybe just enough!

One other note on the wobble extensions (at least the Pittsburgh/HF one that I have)...the orientation of the ball bearing that retains the socket matters. Needs more grinding, but this is where I'm at. Socket reduced from 22+mm to 17mm in length. Re: Power Steering Line Replacement Question

Slight change of situation :) I believe the passenger side seals are leaking as it's wet and I can't find any other leaks. Couple of options I suppose: 1. I have seen that the passenger side rack seals on earlier generations can be replaced in situ. Any hope of that/seal kit for a 2006 V70 2.4? 2. S...

Power Steering Line Replacement Question

Folks, My power steering system appears to have developed a leak. My guess (to be verified this weekend when I can get underneath) is that the rusty pressure line (rusting at one of the points where it clips to the body) has finally pin-holed. I suspect replacing this line involves separating the en...

Random questions: Alignment specs, coolant and battery age

All, I'm noticing that my new to me 2006 V70 has a tendency to not want to return to center after executing a turn. No pulling to the left or right, but definitely noticing a dismal turning radius and this non-centering behavior. I've always thought this was related to caster, but not sure that's so...

Re: PCV Diagnosis Question

- I don't know about V70, but in my 2005 XC90 2.5T, I replaced the top tube (from PCV Trap ---> top of engine) without removing the I.M. - Just use long screwdriver and went in from the driver side, sneaking under the I.M. - I posted the photos in the XC90 forum. Thanks cn90 - I read the same in th...

Re: HomeLink Retrofit

Thanks Oragex. I have Homelink on my old car so it looks like the procedure is the same.

HomeLink Retrofit

All,

Has anyone ever done a HomeLink retrofit? My 2006 NA V70 didn't come with it as an option and as my old car had it, would be nice to have again. Is it as easy as simply grabbing a HL visor out of the scrapyard and R&R or is there some module/reprogramming required?

Thanks!

Re: PCV Diagnosis Question

135k so it's certainly due. Good news is that I rigged up a short term solution using some 5/8" fuel injection line and some RTV, and it passes the nitrile glove test with flying colors :) The 5/8" line goes in a few inches into both hoses. It also passes the drive for 10 minutes and pull the dipsti...

PCV Diagnosis Question

All, As the PCV top hose on my new to me 2006 V70 NA shattered when I touched it, I decided to see if I could perform some diagnostics. Previous owner was good about synthetic oil changes with regular trips to the dealership where they found no problems with the PCV system as recently as 1 year/17k ...
