93 850 sunroof (why'd they have to use plastic pieces???)

I won't re-open a thread, but will link it... I draw your attention to the last couple of entries from CarVolvo dated Sept 4 and the photo he circled...

I have just discovered the same problem on both sides of my sunroof. I dug out the little pieces of plastic. It's some kind of pivot that assists the metal arm when the sunroof is moving up to the "vent" position or being moved down again. The sunroof slides and pops up right now, but Murphy's law says something else will break if I just leave it and use it as is. Does anyone know if there's a schematic of all the pieces to the sunroof and tracks, especially one with part numbers? Has anyone had to order these parts and if so, how much was it?

I'm guessing this will be a dealership-only part(s) if available at all...

your right the only place to get new parts is the dealership! But what i did was actually get a few parts cars and replace the whole assembly as i felt the 93's sunroof was going to have more problems down the road.

To remove the assembly you have to remove the headliner and remove the 7-10 bolts holding it on. Also remove the clamps on the drainage hoses and the electrical connections to your motor and control module.

I know this may seem drastic...but removing the individual parts seemed to be difficult because you had to get them installed in a specific sequence and i also figured it had other issues.

make sure you test the donour parts car first to ensure you dont have the same problems with it!

why not call your dealership and tell us what the parts cost .. i sell whole used assemblies for about $150. I do believe these not only fit the 850 but the v70 too and even the c70.. but we should verify that.

Happy repairs ....forever !!!! 8)

Thought I'd advise everyone for future reference. Figured out that the silver "scissor" piece with the plastic is actually part of the track. So in my case, it would require two new tracks. There I am at the dealership with one of the parts guys I've gotten to know, and he can't even say the price to me, he has to write it down...

$360 each side (that's in Canadian funds).

I nearly puked.

Hey Carvolvo... check your email...

I did have a look online at erievovo's website, but they don't list anything other than the motor for the sunroof...

unfortunately erie volvo does not deal with canadians.

Just as well as i found their parts pretty expensive compared to even local junk yards!
