98 s70 GLT Check engine light and Cooling problem Topic is solved

98 S70 GLT, check engine light keeps coming on, have noticed that when it does come on and I park it, the electric cooling fan keeps running. I have never timed it, just grab the 10mm and pull the positive cable off to reset the computer. That does the trick. I have always said that it warms up faster than any car I have ever owned, but lately it wont warm up, plan to replace the thermostat tomorrow and assume that will solve that? Did not know if that and the fan may be linked somehow???? All this just started since the temps have dropped here in Dallas. Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like two problems happening simultaneously. Find out what code is tripping the CE light:

I just experienced this exact same problem, which may have been triggered from a recent cold snap here in New England. It's been below zero for the past couple days. I have suspected the thermostat since I bought the car, since the temp gage only rises to about 5 oclock and the heater output is weak. Though I suspect part of the problem is due to the thermostat, I also believe a faulty engine temperature sensor is what is causing the fan to turn on when it shouldn't. The plan is to replace the thermostat and the engine temperature sensor. Now all I have to do is fugure out where the sensor is located.
