viewtopic.php?f=1&t=81390

Replaced the turbo oil line, gasket. Clamp. And o-ring on the T5

Chassis break on the oil line, be careful ordering.

These parts hide under lubrication system , not turbocharger category in Volvo parts apps

Tools and procedure

5 mm hex head M4 bolt hold flange of pipe to turbo
O-ring end into the crankcase is a hand press fit.
m6 ( 10mm socket) to release flange screw and nut on clamp which holds oil line and coolant line together
Vice grip to help release oil line

Turbo flange bolts released easily
Clamp bolts were very tough

To reinstall, put one bolt through gasket, raise pipe and tool together, hand thread onebolt. Use tang on gasket to set gasket into right place, insert other bolt

Torque on M4 ..I used 6 Nm as I couldn’t find a spec, so used a nominal M4 spec.

Let me know if this cures your intermittent leak on the rear of the block please =)

In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

Hope so!

One thing about the diagram above. There is a deceptive line between the oil supply line ( double banjo bolt fittings) and the return line (simple flange and flat gasket ) that implies the banjo somehow mates to the flange..it does not These two connections are independent

Redlined it for clarity

Do they let you drive on the beach there? extreme corrosion. Nice write up on an often out of sight out of mind but important maintenance. now the water line.

I replaced the gasket a few weeks ago on mine, easy job once the car is on ramps and it fixed one of my oil leaks
Image
I'd recommend fixing it asap when it leaks, p.o drove mine with the leak for a year and since it drops on the driveshaft it covers the whole engine bay in oil

Well, power washed the underneath and have a hot run on Tuesday next week, so we will know if that has helped the wet engine back (right side) problem shortly....

Follow up

This completely fixed this

Those M4, 5 mm hex head bolts can be a pain to release. One of them is obstructed by the drain pipe and is best done with a long hex bit.

Alternatively, release the oil line clamps so that you can pivot the blocking drain tube away from the fastener path, first

Adding to the knowledge base here.

I’ve found turbo installs are a lot easier if you assemble this oil line to the turbo, then guide it in to the block as you settle the turbo on the exhaust. Studs.

The killer tool for the M4 , 5mm internal hex screws is. A ball head driver so you can tighten slightly off angle

I used a Schmeer of Permatex on the gasket as the OE Reinz gasket did not match up exactly.

Sep 2023 notes on turbo install

Notes on the turbocharger install

Be sure heat shield is in place with two left bolts in place

Install turbo fees water pipe. Banjo has very poor access. Install short water hose

Install water return pipe

Install oil drain pipe with gasket, permatex and two loose m5 hex 5 bolts

Install bottom drain pipe gasket/oring

Clearance both heater hoses , optional

Install turbo to manifold gasket

Lower turbo into space. Pick up water supply line and insert pipe into hose.

Clear oil supply union.

Bring turbo to manifold studs. Start water return hose onto water pipe fitting

Ease into studs and install one bolt to hold.

Place vice grip onto oil banjo, use leverage to position banjo, install with two new copper rings

Start turbo into down pipe studs. Move cat to GE Theeads through and secure one nut
