Crazy clutch pressure plate failure Topic is solved

So 2/3rds of this pressure plate failed. (Car was due for a clutch)
'98 V70 NA.

Bad spots at 11 and 3. Should be attached with backing, but they've sheared. Symptoms were a clutch that sometimes would disengage but often wouldn't, car wasn't happy going into gear some days, but wasn't others and got progressively worse.

Looking at what abscate has highlighted, I have never heard or seen that type of failure. How old was the pressure plate and do you know the brand?

The hole above where abscate has ringed, also looks like something has broken off there as well.

Well, I guess the poor clutch had long passed it's safe working life! May it rest in piece(s)!

Those broken springs hold the pressure plate in position when the clutch is in. It looks like it was floating a bit and gouging up the housing as it moved. Not quite sure what happens when the last of three springs breaks ….
