1997 855 R interior trim alternatives

Post by NC855R »

While taking trim off to redo my headliner the A pillar trim disintegrated partly due to the windshield adhesive contacting the trim after the installation of the windshield. I have a light beige interior on my R. I was going to use the plastic repair thread method but there are way too many small bits and breakage to make it look decent. As these are NLA for the 850 (at least in the light beige color code) is there a substitute that can work? I'm thinking early S70/V70 from 1998 - 2000. Has any one tried this?

Thanks for any advice.

Sorry don't know if they are interchangeable. I'll keep an eye out for one. Can you post a picture of the offending item so I or others can keep an eye out for you?

For parts like that, which are still available but only in the wrong color, has anyone tried painting them?

I have tried this but the color matching is problematic. I've used several SEM colors but can't find anything that is close. I don't mind mismatched colors in obscure places but these are the A pillars and it would drive me crazy to have them be off. That is just me.

What about painting them an accent color?

Not really for me, I'm trying hard to keep it original as possible. I realize that given the age and lack of parts availability this is getting increasingly difficult. I might have a bead on something in the local pull-a-part, going to check it out today, fingers crossed.

No joy at the pull-a-part :( Trim was destroyed. Did score 2 nicer door panel "cups" for the door handle.
