I’m now unable to locate the appropriate subframe bolts and the new rack mounting hardware for this project. General internet search turns up no hits and neither does a search on FCP’s site. I can’t even find the part numbers on VIDA which only seems to show the rack and lines in the steering parts diagram. Anyone have a clue how to source these items?

The nuts are flange lock nuts, single use, 10a here

Subframe hardware

985111 for the bolts #36 on diagram, these are single use bolts stretch to torque

You can save $50 reusing them if you inspect every day fir a week, then every week for a month, then every month for six months, ensuring your punch marks don’t move.

That makes your 16 inspections worth $3 each. I use new bolts

If you have the sexy c70 brace you use longer bolts not referenced here

Not intending to use hardware again. Have ordered 985111 with the bushings. To confirm, flange nuts 987891 fit the rack mounting bolts, shows that in the diagram, but that would seem larger than the sway bar end link bolts..? Am I issuing something? So I would need 5 of the 10a’s to mount the rack. But I still don’t find the new splined bolts for the rack.

I think the splined bolts come with the rack. I’m not sure I’ve seen them as a separate part number ever?

took pictures of mine to do a write up, but haven't had the chance yet. here's the pictures though, maybe they'll help. there's a notch on the bushing that needs to line up with an arrow on the subframe.
i 3d printed the pieces to press in the bushing, no longer need them if you're interested. i also printed the recieving cup, but it broke and i just used a piece of pvc tubing and one of the metal washers in its place

ZionXIX wrote: 25 Jan 2026, 18:10 Part of that subframe job was replacing the steering rack. I purchased the cheapest "new" rack on rock auto. I haven't put a lot of miles on it yet but it works. Biggest problem I found was moving the captive bolts from the old rack to the new one. They look like small wheel hub bolts that are press fit eith splints. I ended up cracking the housing for one of the bolts during installation. I just finished the installation regardless and hasn't given me any problems so far.

As abscate points out in a later post, those spline bolts don’t appear to be readily available. Once I got my VIDA running I was able to see the diagram he posted more clearly and it shows all 4 mounting flange bolts to be part 982817 which crosses to 988183, available from various sources. It is an M10-1.5 x 30, grade 8.8. No splines. As abscate said they likely come as part of the original rack and are possibly/likely not intended to be removed and swapped into a replacement rack..?, for fear of the cracking issue? Perhaps someone else has a qualified take on this. So I’ve ordered 4 new 988183 flange screws and 5 new 987891 (single use locking flange nuts). For new rack install.

My take on the replacement subframe bolts (985111) was that it was due to the stretch facror of the torquing process. AND…I just came across this bit of archived thought process , stimulated by the gentleman himself.

That actually sounds like a good plan. I made an assumption on the spliced bolt transfer but so far no issues. I might look into new subframe bolts if they give me problems.
