Just wanted to close this thread off by saying thank you to everyone who contributed on it and for the great advice/troubleshooting tips.

Unfortunately the day I dreaded my transmission would some day go has arrived. I guess at almost 230k miles and being 28 years old, it's done well. I'm having the transmission rebuilt next week.
