Shuts down right after starting Topic is solved

Good morning all.

I have a 1999 S70 non-turbo volvo with 21,000 miles with this problem. It turns over and sounds like it is about to run fine and idle down, but then the idle goes all the way down and shuts off. I then have to turn the key all the way into the off position and try again. After several attemps I finally reved the engine and kept it up to 4,000 rpms while starting and then let it settle down and it started running fine. My wife drove the car and experienced the same. Any help would be appreciated.
