My 97 850 with approx (replaced engine) 90,000. miles on it dies randomly. No particular pattern other than.
The SRN lite comes on first within a few seconds other lite on the driver panel come on, and the gages stopped
working, i.e., odmeter, gas, and rpm. The car starts to lose power..,regardless how hard I press the gas pedal
there is no response.. the car dies and there is no power, to close the window even.
I can let is sit for a few hrs and it will start. battery nor the alternator reboost itself does it.. ? , why does it start
later and run ok for a few more hrs ? Thanks for your replies
Battery or Alternator Why does car die..????

I had this symptom on my '97 855 GLT (147k miles) a couple months ago and it was caused by a resistive connection at the positive battery terminal. I replaced the terminal and cleaned up the connections and it solved the problem.
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94
