Hi,
I am trying to do an IPD turbo control valve and IPD compression bypass valve. I have what seems like half the top rear of the engine taken apart (over top of the engine tube off, heat shield moved, etc.), and I have gotten the old bypass valve out (that lower most bolt is a real pain and not looking forward to trying to get that back in). I am replacing the 3 vac lines to the TCV at the same time with blue silicone. What I can't seem to get at is the red coded vacuum line that connects to the turbo and runs to the TCV red port. The connection to the turbo on this line is really hard to get at. Any ideas on how to get this hose off the turbo so I can replace it now, with everything else out of the way?
Car is in pieces. Ack. I will call IPD tomorrow as well, but I am not sure they are going to have any advice other than pull the whole turbo, which I am not doing.

If it is the line that I think you are talking about you can really only get to it from underneath the car and it is done more by feel than by sight.

Yep, I have been trying get this hose off from below; that's how I got the bottom 10mm bolt off for the compression bypass valve cover, pretty much by feel from below.
This %$&# hose has a spring clamp on it that I can't quite compress with my fingers, and it won't just pull off. I can't seem to get cutters or pliers up there, either a lack of "feel" or not enough room to work.
Any suggestions on anything I can remove that isn't too big a job to put back that might get me better access? Or I am just not going at this the right way?
The hose is original, 12 years old, like all my vac hoses. You can gently rub the outside and have it powder up and begin to fall apart, but it is just strong enough to stay on this fitting. Yes, I will be replacing all of them soon, but I want to get this one done while I have all this pulled apart.

I used a screwdriver on mine to more or less pry it off and I blew off putting the spring clamp back on. I just replaced that line last week on my daughter's new S70 so time will tell if the clamp was really necessary or not.

Thanks for the tip. I will admit that I have not tried a screwdriver to pry it off. Brain not working well at midnight last night, I guess. I will see if I can get the new clamp on it, but I may leave it off as well.
We will see how it goes tonight. I may stop by car parts store and see what they have for spring clamp pliers.

Just did that one. Put it off for a year.
From the top, pull it off with long pliers. You do the "heavy lifting" from the top. From the bottom, you do the gentle stuff... guide the new one on with your fingers. I couldn't even use gloves it's so tight and delicate.
I had my car up on stands, maybe 12-18 inches higher than it sits, and I was underneath on a "creeper".
I used a regular screw replacement clamp and had just enough room to use a small 1/4 inch ratchet to tighten it. Use powerful lights from above and below to see what you're doing. Wear eye protection when under the car because stuff will drop into your eyes.

Well, a bit more of a redneck approach I suppose, but I cut the thing off as close as I could get to it with a pocketknife at the top, then pried the C-clip with the rest of it off from the bottom.From the top, pull it off with long pliers. You will need to get some kind of clamp on there; I have blown (a) hose off of the turbo control valve before, so I imagine it would do the same at the turbo.
But how will you discover what else is leaking?! A drop of coolant right in your eye as you're looking at it does wonders for telling you where it's coming from...and hurts!Wear eye protection when under the car because stuff will drop into your eyes.

I called IPD, got pretty much the same response. Nothing I can do to make more room that won't be a real pain to put back, especially with the AWD cars. I like the idea of both scraping off the old hose from below with a long screwdriver or brute force pulling it from above. IPD said a clamp is pretty essential, or bad things may happen to the turbo when the line blows off. I will definitely use a conventional screw type hose clamp, since I can probably turn that a lot easier than getting a spring clamp on there. I'll let you know.
More fun under the car tonight.

Sounds good. I tried to do everything from underneath, but after a couple hours I thought this is so difficult it may make the top-down work easier relatively than it did at first look. And it did.
