IPD just did a write-up on my 850 and I thought I'd share it with everyone. My humble thanks to Matt, the moderators and anyone who has commented on a post that have helped me over the years - you get a lot of credit for helping me keep it on the road.

Beautiful looking wagon. My 21 year old daughter inherited my 96 850 wagon and she loves it to death.

Nice Vince! Agree with all the commenters (here and on iPD), it's a very nice 850. Looks good with those C70 wheels too.

Hah! Nice article.

I know you've taken great care of that car, and your daughter is lucky to have such a well-maintained hand-me-down car.

Ouch! I had that scare thrown into me Saturday afternoon when Shannon called me and said smoke was coming from under the hood. After driving 50 miles as fast as I could to see the damage, it turned out that the heater core hose blew a hole - one of the few things I haven't replaced yet. Fortunately, I had some electrical tape, a jug of antifreeze and a few tools and it was enough to limp it home.

That is one sweet wagon. I have dreams of a nice Saffron 6 speed! I hope to convince my son to give up his Subaru for a nice Volvo wagon (mine!) so I can get myself a really good looking, strong running toy!

Great article!
I have always thought of my Volvos as I do my best horses: Takes a little more care but the rewards are well worth it.
I have had some "toaster" cars before. They do what they should but there is no excitement and little reward other than they did their job. Just like the toaster that sits on my counter. Come to think of it the boring cars and the toaster both have to have the crumbs dumped out of them every once in a while.

Gotta love that R too!

Would Google Earth show it parked on your driveway?
I need an apprenticeship with Vince.
Love the feel.

Oddly enough, Google Earth updated the pics just after I bought the R which is seen in the driveway while the 850 is in the garage getting repaired.

Most every repair I've done myself, but the last go-around with the head gasket, valve stem seals and piston replacement was headed-up by Justin "Dr.Brutal" who just happens to live about 3 miles away, so I was the apprentice for that bit.

Why did the piston shatter?
