2000 S70 - Heater Core hoses - which goes where?

Post by TXPilot69 »

I replaced my evaporator core, and during that process also bought new o-Rings and yellow clips from my Volvo dealer for the heater core hoses. I followed the instructions and used a pair of bent tweezers to remove the OLD o-rings from the firewall receptacles before putting the new ones in, but I still have a leak.

I notice that the two hoses seem to be the same diameter on the brass fittings, but one is longer than the other. Which one goes in which hole? Is it the short one in the top hole, or the longer one in the top hole?

When I say one is longer, I'm talking about the brass nipples on the ends that insert into the firewall coupler.

The more reading I do on this, I think the problem is the new kit I got may not have the appropriate spacers and washers. Seems like there is an abundance of different choices. How do you know what's right for your car? I haven't replaced the firewall junction so it should be OEM. I'll take a video of what I've got; the hoses firewall side probably have a little more wiggle than they should, even though they are seated until they don't pull out.

Here's the video.

I just ordered a new coupler from FCP Euro (which has a full set of rings and spacers for both the firewall and cabin sides), and the Swedish Auto Parts heater core... if I'm going to pull it apart that far, I might as well replace the heater core too, and just be done with it.

good. I did this with a new coupler also, and also new hoses outside from the motor. On mine, there was a thicker plastic ring holding the outer O-rings and spacer in place. after I threw this thicker ring away, everything clicked into place and no leaks.
