Volvo Repair Database 95 Volvo 850 T5R how-to bypass a/c thermal switch

Post by phils94850 »

Since its that time of season and I had problems with my A/C thermal causing me problems I thought I would do a "how-to" on bypassing it. I couldn't find anything with pictures so here you go :)

First pic is of the A/C thermal ( after I've cut the wires on both ends ) but it gives you a clear shot of what it looks like
Thermal Fuse 1.jpeg
second pic shows the connector you need to disconnect that comes from the harness to the thermal
Thermal Fuse 2.jpeg
This is the wire coming out of the back of the thermal ( back side of compressor ) cut it as close to the thermal as you can
Thermal Fuse 4.jpeg
This is the wire stripped coming out of the front of the thermal getting ready to connect to the wire that went to the back of the thermal
Thermal Fuse 5.jpeg
Wires tied together ( should use a butt connector or solder ) I did this for a quick pic...
Thermal Fuse 6.jpeg
Finished result.. just plug the connectors back together and your done.. basically you should have what looks like in the first pic ( a square thermal with wires cut on each end )

Isn't that a protective device?
Why not just replace it?

The high temp switch was problematic and was deleted later. The compressor mfr left it on as it was not needed by Volvos with hig pressure switch since that also is the protection fro compressor overheat.
I deleted them by unplugging the power lead from engine harness to wire into switch and unplugging the wire out of switch to the wire to clutch magnetic coil. Then you plug the power wire directly to clutch coil wire leaving the switch wires hanging in the breeze.
