Ok, it seems like this car is starting to have many problems. Most small. The latest is torn cv boots. How easy is it to replace the boots? Just remove the axles? Any input is appreciated.

If the boots have been torn for sometime it is usually safer to replace the entire axle. These can be sourced from Raxles. The guy who runs it, Marty, is a great guy.

Wow, they seem very easy. Just looks like a matter of buying the parts.

Make sure you get quality CV boots. GKN/Lobro, do not get EMPI or Rein boots.

You don't need to replace entire axles because of torn cv boots.Only things which needs to be replaced are cv joints. They come as a kit with cv joint, boot and clamps.Quality cv joints usually come allready pre-filled with grease.Use Gkn Lobro cv joints because they are oem parts.

If they aren't clacking then you can usually just buy the boots and stuff them full of grease. The GKN/Lobro boots are readily available from NAPA or CarQuest.

Once they start making noise then I usually just replace the axle but I have made a number of missteps when going that route. The only axle I will buy now is from Marty at Raxles. All other aftermarket or auto parts stores rebuilts have been terrible.

Looks like this repair is next on the list. Passenger side outer boot is torn through on one of the inner creases, no grease getting flung out yet though. Driver side outer boot is solid but looking rough, lots of surface cracks.

Very surprised to see that AutohausAZ has those. Last year I ordered boots from them and all they had was Conti/Rein. I went ahead. The pass outer boot now has a tear in it. I called them to ask about a warranty, but they said no joy. The boot could have also torn due to hitting something, not sure. But good to see they now stock GKN and at a good price.

To the OP: I did this job myself for the first time last year. I did the pass. side first. Very, very messy. Royal PITA getting the circlip to release so I could remove the joint, which was very, very tight. I wound up using a pneumatic hammer to both remove it and reinstall. Getting the correct pliers made all the difference in preventing the circlip from continuously slipping off. With that sorted, the driver side was MUCH easier. No worries pulling either axle out of the transmission, no sticking at all.

Good to know others here recommend Raxales.

When I just checked NAPA's site, all the boots they listed were made by EMPI. Do you have a link or part number for GKN? Thanks.
