98 V70 GLT Opinions on Clearwater Cylinder Heads

Post by stephansvolvo »

I have a burnt valve, pulled the head, almost according Roberts video, while removing the cams I cracked the journals. I took the head to a couple of shops and both opinions were pull another head from PNP and bring it in. 450-500 to R/R the head. I give them all the valves and ect ....
Or order a remand head from a cylinder shop. I called Erievovo and they didn't have the head I called Clearwater. They have the head. For 565.00 I get the head, cams, and cam cover. Fully loaded with all the valves and ect....this mean I can send back the parts I bought to do this job myself saving around 700.00.

Long story short...
Clearwater has crappy reviews and a Pretty bad BBB rating. Has anyone used Clearwater cylinders and what was your experience?

I had the same concerns when preparing to deal with Clearwater a few years ago. Ultimately I opted not to after speaking with the proprietor over the phone. He just rubbed me the wrong way. Many on this site, however, have used Clearwater in the past and appear to be quite satisfied with the service.

Why don't you pull a head from local junk yard, then have it professionally rebuilt?
Or rebuild it yourself (new valve stem seals, relap the valves etc.)...

I had a local race car engine builder do mine. If I recall, it was around $500 after I supplied the parts.
