97 855 Rear Passenger Flexible Brake Hose

Post by dyn blin » Mon Mar 07, 2016 11:08 am

In my previous P80's, I have not needed to change the passenger side rear flexible brake hose- they have always been in surprisingly good condition for the life of the cars, even when the other 3 need replaced.

On my current project, however, it looks ready to be swapped. I'm having an unexpected challenge figuring out access to get my ham-fisted digits around the delta-links for access.

Any pointers from the group?

Pull the deltas and refresh their bushings and links now, too!

Just kidding. It is a tough one and I don't remember what I did, but I was able to remove that hose OK, from underneath maybe? Outside of the usual corrosion on a fitting etc. So just saying hang in there someone should have some tips ...

Here is the trick: remove the whole thing, then replace the hose when the whole thing is out of the car.

1. Disconnect at the Y-connector on driver's rear side.
- Gently clamp the rubber hose on the driver's rear side just enough to stop fluid loss.

2. Undo the Right Rear brake caliper mounting bolts (x2), do NOT disconnect the metal line-to-RR brake caliper connection, you will be sorry if you do.

3. Loosen the mounting clips (on top of the delta link).

Now you remove the whole thing: metal line (driver rear side) ---> rubber hose ---> metal line ---> RR brake caliper.
Once the whole thing is outside of the car, use propane torch + PB Blaster etc. to undo the nuts.

I mentioned this trick in the Brake Hydraulic Overhaul I wrote a few years back.
