Not an ad. I am seeking to find out where and how you guys sell best. Funny how we tend to think our cars are worth more than they may be. Figured a convertible in the summer would be a quick sale... NOPE. Not sure why but... getting concerned now! I listed my 04 C70 convertible on several places for sale. Car runs better than the first day off the assembly line, looks great too and I get no bites. No calls, no looks! This is not an ad for it... I am seeking suggestions where and how you guys sell! I tried craigslist and did not get any calls - list price is between private party and dealer pricing for KBB and Edmonds shows it as the private party price. Is EBAY a better place to sell? It's the First time I have not sold off my front lawn (it is there too) and I have not sold a car in many many years. Usually I would have expected to at least to get low ball offers right?
Anyone have suggestions / tips for selling as I don't want to give it away and may have to keep it.

How much you asking? What pictures did you include? Lots of folks looking on CL are cheap, myself included.

I have been trying to convince my cousin to give an older Volvo convertible a try. I think I sent him your ad. But he's deadset on those "hardcover" convertibles...
I think selling an "older" used car on Craigslist is really hard.
If you really need to sell the car, I'd price it for -$1000 below KBB and make sure you say that. I would write up a list of things that were serviced. Rhetorically, make sure that prospective buyers think the car is one you'd like to keep.
Also I agree with wizechatmgr, I only look for cars between $200-800...

KBB is *totally* unrealistic, it is always well above what cars actually sell for. I think the site only exists to sell ad space, because sellers go there and feel good after leaving. Unless you are dead set on waiting for the sucker who doesn't know the market, start with the Edmonds price and move downward.
The problem with an old (beyond 10 years) C70 vert is the convertible market is already very narrow, then the enthusiasts know about this model's additional problems, so it's a double whammy. I'm thinking of the windows, mainly; have heard of issues about the tops; to be fair I don't know much about these cars but think of them as on the high side of the already-high maintenance needs of a Volvo. Just to say, you may have to wait for the right buyer, who both loves Volvo and wants a C70, to get high end for this car. And if that's your market, then the forums are your best outlet for advertising, with lots of pictures and detail about the maintenance history, given the audience. And lots of patience.

Great feedback and great information. thank you. Seems like if you keep the car for yourself (like I may have to) its like getting a $45,000 car for a fraction of the price since it is like new. But if you try to sell it... its like giving away a great car for almost nothing. Truth is I have not even gotten low ball lookers or "tire kickers"! Why bother selling if I can get $4K? I pulled the collision coverage off it so insurance is pretty cheap. Rather sell but getting frustrated by the crickets. Then I thought maybe people see the car on the lawn... don't stop and look at it because they figure it cost a lot of money because it looks like an expensive car. Do you guys usually post the price bold on the windshield?? I did not. I put price discreetly on a paper in the window.
Last time I sold a car many years ago it was a 850 wagon - daily beater, it looked like a daily beater and it sold for $1500 in a week.

Clean retail on a C70 Vert with 175000 miles (my guess) is $4000, so private party sale is $2000 or so.
Thats a nice car to dump for $2000, agreed. I would at least sell it to someone I liked or a relative.

Abscate, my car has 101,000 miles. Put a Trans in with 55k miles on it and put a rebuilt valve body on that low milage Trans. This car won't have the problems many have with the transmission. I would sell this to anyone and have a clear conscious. Since this post is about how to sell a car and not about the car itself I will spare you the list of many maintenance items using volvo parts.
Back to trying to sell a car... but hearing crickets...
I may offer it on consignment to a local used car dealer to put on his lot (on consignment) since a dealers retail is more $ maybe they can make money and sell it... and the inventory does not cost them anything, Just an idea if I continue to get no looks and no offers. I could offer financing but thats crazy!

Clean retail means everything in working order, so work/parts don't add anything to the price.
You can put thelow miles in to NADA and get a new retail and your target price should be 1/2 that

Nada and kbb say my Land Rover is worth about three times what I could realistically sell it for. It's all about the market for a particular vehicle, sucks but that's how it is.
