Bulb Failure Position Light
This code shows up in the message text window on my dash. After looking in my manual for the exact bulb - it doesn't list a "position light". What am I missing and is this something I can correct myself?

Just yesterday, I received the same message on my 2002 S60. Ive searched everywhere on the car but can't seem to find any bulbs that are burnt-out or out of position. I plan to call the dealer to see if I can fix it myself.

Another visitor to this site seems to have found the answer for us. Below is his quote.
Hope this helps you. I plan to visit my car after dark and search (again) for burnt-out light bulbs. In all honesty, I never thought to check the license plate bulbs in my first quest for answers.
Best of Luck.

"I found the answer to this question in the S60 section of this Forum. "Position Light" refers to the 2 front, 2 side, 4 rear and 2 number plate bulbs. In my case, one of the two taillight bulbs on the left side was out, and it's hard to see because the other one was still working. A new bulb was installed and the message went away.

Hi,
It happened to me this morning exactly same message "bulb failure, position light". I waited evening and checked each lights. They all seemed to me okay but i realize one didn't work, it is side marker light. If you have S60 manual you can see it at the behind cover or inside of the book. (P10W -- 21 W BA 15s). Just keep in your mind. Thanks,

I had this problem, went in to the dealership and they gave me a great tip. It seems the blubs may not be making a good connection in the socket, so the tech just more or less slapped the side of the car where the light was out, and it came back on, and the message light went out.
This has happened to me several times, and the slap has always worked - either on the side or on the lense of the light. (This has been on the rear driver's side light.)

Over the last 2 years the "slap" has worked for our '04 V70 as well....usually once every 6 months the message comes on and the bulb isn't burned out- just making bad contact.

I think this question has been answered, but to add some specifics (at least to my case) I had this error message and replaced the bulb on the light on the rear bumper mounted on the curvature of the bumper itself (ie not the larger tail light). It seemed to do the job - poor description on the part of Volvo

My 2005 XC70 just had this same issue. After some hunting I found one of the front "parking" lights was out. The service message remains illuminated (bulb failure position light) after bulb replacement - any suggestions? Thx

still contact for the bulb are bad- I would take an emery board to them and file just a bit to get a good contact in the socket and your bulb's base...see if this does the trick.
