Morning all,
2009 4.4 R Design. Over the last few months, there is a random loud Knock noise coming from the engine bay when driving. It is very loud and is a single Knock. It almost sounds like someone is throwing a baseball into a metal can or hitting a baseball with a metal baseball bat. It may do it once a trip, it may do it 10 times.
Engine Mounts are on the way out and have started changed them. So far i have only done the top mound the lower torque mount with the other 3 being done over the weekend. After replacing the two so far, the intermittent knock has increased and has become even louder.
Any one experienced this type of noise before. Pretty loud, almost makes you wan to jump out of your seat when it happens. Can't seem to pin point where and what is doing it. Sound like its coming from behind the firewall.
It is not the axle bolt clunk that many people experience, this is def something else. All help appreciated with this one.

Check your pulleys - mainly a tensioner or AC.
Hi,
Ended up being the other engine mounts, Seems once I replaced the first few, the engine was already much more stable and it must have been transferring weight, etc and as a resut, causing this massively loud noise. Once the others were replaced (6 hrs labour mind you) noise has completely gone. All the mounts were absolutely shot. Feels like a completely different car on the road now. Appreciate the help.
