Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 squeaks and lights

Post by guest »

Hello there!
Thanks for the great info on this site..! I have a few questions maybe someone can help with. I recently bought a 2000 S80 T-6 w/20,000 original miles...I've already spent a few weekends replacing stubborn blinker and headlight bulbs and recently had a radiator leak repaired...(guess the extended warranty was a good choice). A few questions...does anyone know if the controls on the steering wheel are supposed to be illuminated? And has anyone dealt with an annoying "squeak" from the dash/glove box? I've managed to tighten every screw visible but it always seems to return after a few days. Thanks!

I've had that glove box squeaking for the entire time i've owned my S80 T6. I gave up and just stuffed it with enough stuff so its hard to close, that takes care of the noise. get ready for a whole host of problems. I hate my 2000 S80 T6. For the few weeks a year when nothing is wrong, its a joy to drive, otherwise, problem after problem. 3 oil leaks, front suspension replaced, shocks, fuel system cleaned.... I even tried calling Volvo. They are in bed with the dealers and do nothing but direct you back to the dealers that charge a fortune. good luck.

The steering wheel controls ARE illuminated. If yours are not, sorry to say that I can't tell you what to do about it.

In answer to both questions. There is a chassis break as regards the illuminated radio controls. The early cars do not. I believe that mid 2000 on is the point at which they were illuminated. You do not have a problem. As regards the glovebox squeak, there is a fix. We would wrap the striker hook on the glovebox with a special tape from Volvo. There is a factory bulletin on this manner. I have also found that the fuzzy side of velcro applied to the glovebox door (inside) helps also.
