1993 240 squeaks

Post by Uncle_Paul »

This thing sounds like a 1947 Buick station wagon. Drives like one too. New rear shocks and bushings but still rides low in the back whilst clunking and squeaking. Any help is immensely appreciated. Thanks so much.

New shocks in the rear are great for ride quality, but if the coils are bad (which it sounds like they are), you'll want to replace them too. Bushings and shocks won't do a ton for ride level on old coils.

The clunking and squealing is worrisome though. What's the status of the anti-sway bar, and links? The rear suspension on the 240s are nice and simple, not a lot of things can go wrong. When you replaced the shocks, did you install the collar on the lower bolt? I recently talked to someone that had to cut theirs out, and didn't think the collar was necessary, but it was horribly noisy, and I'm certain it will cause the shocks to fail prematurely.

It depends on a lot of things. Is it a wagon? It happens more than you think. Check tires and the anti-sway bar.
