Charging R12 same as 134a ?

Post by 740_owner »

I have a 1990 740 Gl and the magnetic clutch isn't kicking on, I'm assuming it just needs r12 since the guy I bought if from said it worked.

If you have r12 is it the same procedure when charging it as 134 ?

also, when I start it it usually takes about 5 turns to get it running, then It runs fine in idle but when I'm at a stop light in drive the idle is low and it oscillates up and down, is that normal....how do i adjust the idle speed?

thanks,

R12 and R134 are NOT compatable. The AC system has to be completely flushed and all oil removed. The receiver dryer has to be replaced, new oil added that is compatable with the R134 and then the system charged.

R12 is the real FREON and it is totally forbidden in most countries around the world, so it is very hard do find. Be legal, convert the system.

It does totally depend on your local laws and regulations. In some areas all R12 is collected and destroyed, in other areas you are allowed to reuse collected R12 buy new product is not available. If you can get it in your area be prepared to pay top dollar as it is very expensive.
