Wired's review of the 780's 25th anniversary

Post by matthew1 »

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I just happened on this.

Here is Wired's review of the 25th anniversary of the Volvo 780. Not actually a review of the car, but more a brief review of its introduction, design, and legacy.

Gotta love those old Volvo's. The Bertone's looked really sharp. I just wish they had been a bit quicker.

Zomg, I parked next to one of these tonight at a rest stop! I was trying to figure out what KIND of Volvo it was as I got closer - had I known they were so rare, I woulda taken a picture of them side by side.

I had a similar experience. I was driving around Gettysburg and saw a maroon one in the distance and thought to myself "hmm, looks like a Volvo, but none that I've ever seen." As I got closer, I almost had an instant orgasm. If there wasn't traffic behind me, I would have gotten some nice pictures of it. Maybe next time I'm up that way it'll still be there...one can dream, right

I spent my entire summer outside of Gettysburg doing construction and I never saw that Volvo. :-( lol

I am a Volvo fan, but I guess I am not diggin' on how this car looks.

Remember the AMC Alliance? This car reminds me of that gem.

I think this was Volvo's answer to the early 80's BMW 635 coupe. Rare, distinguished coupes with lots of glass.

Well, it is nice but I preferred the 262C. This is the brochure picture as I know of only one of these within a radius of 250 miles from Durham.

A colleague had one in white until he tried to drive it in a field after spinning out on ice.

Apparently the rear seat passenger was an optional extra that doubled as an anti-theft device.

The best thing they did on the 780 coupe is slope the rear window to avoid that 740/760 almost vertical window profile.

I quite like the grille, headlights and wheels too.

The 262 is also a fave of mine, Bill, love those uncurved panels.......
