please can someone explain to me the procedure to get at the back of the radio so I can install a Parrot bluetooth device on my 2001 S60.

How to Remove Volvo Radio

This is from the procedure to install an in-dash mug holder which requires removal of the radio. One step is VERY tricky. Go slow.
1. Set gear shift back at least to mid point. Turn key off as far as you can.
2. Disconnect Battery negative terminal. Remember not to close trunk!
In fact, roll a window down to preven lock out if only one key is available.
3. Remove small panel (cover) in front of the gearshift by gently prying on the left and right edges. I use two small screwdrivers but plastic would be better. A putty knife is useful as well as two popsickle sticks. Be careful not to scrap off paint.
4. Pry up the rear two catches on the flat cover of the gear shift. Gently! Its all plastic. Do same to front two catches. (Can do in reverse order too) Lift gear shift cover off.
5. Remove the two screws from the bottom of the Environment Panel...do not drop!
6. Tough step: Go easy. Pull out bottom of Environmental Panel until you can get some fingers under it. It is tight. Dont over extend it (max 30 degrees). Volvo says it will come out by pulling the bottom outward and downward (Downward requires much force) and out. It did not work for me. I eventually tilted the bottom out as recommended, put fingers under the mid point of sides and rocked the top out using my fingers as a pivot point, pressing with thumbs at bottom. There are two spring clips at the top but I do not think they can be compressed with a screwdriver. If you get past this step, remove the connectors from the back and set aside.
7. The radio is easy. Remove the two screws on the bottom and let id drop downward. Remove connectors.
I have pictures but my scanner is broken. I might be able to get them to the webmaster if requested.

All you have to do to install the indash cupholder is the following:
Take a flathead screwdriver and place it in the slot inside the cubby (there's one at the top, and one at the bottom - under the rubber). Pry the tabs outward and the cubby will slip out. The tabs are thick plastic and can take quit a bit so just keep prying until you've lifted the tabs enough to make the cubby come out, and even if you break the tabs it won't matter becuase you're replacing the cubby anyway).
The new cupholder will then just snap in. I actually did this and it works perfectly with no harm done. Why Volvo tells you you have to do all of that stuff with the radio is beyond me.
