the network was interripted and left the SRS code as a telltale.
Vida might spot the glitch, I think iot can monitor 6 paramters on the fly.
Door locks quit, CEL came on, won’t start now.

Definitely sounds like immobilizer. Shameful of dealers that won’t work in customers on a road trip, that is ridiculous.BlackBart wrote: ↑08 Aug 2025, 17:54 So, related to the imobilizer? Did I bump the key fob wrong or something?
I may go have it scanned and clear the airbag code, that’s random. It has a new steering wheel bag done at a dealer.
Funny - there IS a dealer here where we’re visiting. They once gave my car a sideways look and said they could get me in in 6 weeks.
If you are there another several days may be worth ordering an iCarSoft scanner off Amazon and shipping to your location. This one is $110USD and two-day shipping to me in Iowa (would arrive Sunday).

Not really - cloudy and pleasant thru Wyoming, and the 40 miles of Colorado high 80’s.
I keep wondering if I dropped the key or something.
No scanners or VIDA in my tool bag, to answer those questions. Weekend now. There’s an Autozone a few blocks away - I could have them scan it and clear whatever it sees.

You'd be hard pressed to damage the chip by dropping the key.
I would disconnect the battery terminals for at least 10 minutes while connecting the battery cables negative and positive together for that time as well. Often when you have issues like this, clearing the codes will allow the vehicle to operate normally until or if the issue reappears, get a scanner and clear the codes and see if it works after.
The SRS AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT is coincident with disconnecting something electrical without disconnecting the battery first, don't worry about that message for now.

Yes, thank you. It’s acting completely normally now.
I’m trying to think back to anything out of the ordinary I did -
I remember bumping the turn signal switch while cranking at a gas stop.
We climbed a steep pass to high altitude and I used the manual shifter to hold it in 2nd or 3rd. 25-30 mph, no high revs. Then I held it in 4th for engine braking on the way down. It’s acted quirky for a short time in the past after I did that.
This connector I think is unrelated - an old plug just behind the left outboard headlight, against the inner fender, behind the air box. I don’t think it’s disconnected, I think it’s unused.

Praised be the car that does this. Definitely a network glitch with all those symptoms coming in rapid fire. Keys, locks, SRS are all canbus driven and if that gets disrupted all Hades breaks loose. Most important- car that breaks at home, deserves to be repaired
Definitely carry a tool to disconnect the battery , except you cannot get the tailgate open if the lock canbus isn’t working, unless you have an early P2 with a rear mechanical key?
Maybe locate the main ECU and CEM fuses so you can reset from within car or under hood?
An Audi that self immolates is doing you a favour. One time my Audi engine blew up, full of fresh new oil.
