Throttle issue 02' v70 2.4 n/a

Post by Itschetmanly31 »

👋 hello, my car is having problems with throttle/ idle RPM will shoot up to 1500-2000 on startup and fluctuate when warm. After warm up RPM will gradually increase to 2500 and then drop to 1500 and again slowley go back to 2500 over and over again untill it stalls then shuts down. Additional symptoms are no response from accelerator pedal and then sudden response when pressing pedal. Stalling then die when going through gear changes (automatic trans).

I did install a new upgraded magnetic TPS on the ETM with no success, absolutely no change in symptoms. All other sensors have been checked with scanner (not VIDA) and are working consistently and all fuses are good. The car WAS throwing codes relative to the accelerator pedal soo I removed it and found a scratch on the sensor face (pedal side not pluged side). So my question, does anyone have experience with this? And would a scratch on the pedal potentiometer casue the problems mentioned above? Below is a picture of the petal sensor.

Yes I did a thorough clean on the TB although it wasn't very dirty to begin with. In addition, replaced the TB gasket.

I'm really not tech savvy. I'm thinking about looking up a local guy with access to VIDA software to perform a check. But thanks for the video

good idea, I'm not a tech type either.
I know it uses 2 methods to generate throttle signal, digital and analog, they have to be a close match or it will go into limp mode.

Not sure if its ETB or ETM its the larger clunky TB with the yellow sticker.

Update: after taking for a test drive I think im dealing with a fuel pump issue it gives many symptoms of failing pump or regulator unit. The car has never engaged limp mode witch is a big indicator of a failed TB. I can still drive the car and it responds to throttle input. I will test pressure and post results later

Gotcha. I would make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks as well. Those have always caused fuel-like symptoms for me.

Found a vacume leak and she's back to normal. Initially I found a vacume leak, fixed and had no change in symptoms. I did the fuel pressure test and that's when I found the OTHER broken vacume line lmao. SMH it was a simple fix all along, the car adjusted back to normal idle after just a few seconds
