2005 Volvo S60R, no start,

Post by karl3567 »

2005 Volvo S60R with 42000 miles, son was driving to school when he called saying the car was revving high RPMs but wasn't increasing speed. Said the dash said anti-scid needed maintenance. He got it to school and after he came back to start the car it wouldn't start. He called me and the wife and I went to look at it. I took a scan reader that says it does Volvo and i get a bunch of codes. all 5 five cylinders misfire, low fuel pressure, MAF out of range, small air leak(pvc system). low fuel rail pressure. Not one saying anything about the ant-scid.
So i don't have vida/dice to properly scan, would fuel pump cause all of these. Either way ive got to tow it home, just need somewhere to start. Any info would be appreciated

Get a Flat bed tow.
Was the car trying to turn over and no start?
or no/ low power - no start?
Check Simple things first. Loose connections, hoses.

fuel pump could cause it but so can the PEM which controls the pump.
If the PEM is mounted externally ( on top of the tank) its suspect due to exposure.
New ones are silly expensive but used ones are less than $75 on ebay.

Cycle the key on and listen for the fuel pump priming for 2 seconds, its just a hum but you can hear it.
If no pump prime I'd swap the PEM, its a lot easier than the pump .

Otherwise you'd have to get access to the pump and provide 12v feed to test it.
If the pump access is under the rear seat you can't connect the battery without setting the SRS light if the seat is out.
Maybe its derent on the S60 but thats what I ran into on my V70. I bought VIDA to clear the SRS light.
PEM removal is only 1 bolt and a plug.

FIRST check the battery condition. A low battery will cause lots of misc. codes. There should be battery test terminals under the hood. If below about 12.0 volts at rest, try a known good battery to start. Then check voltage when running. The alternator shown produce about 13.5 volts when running. If not, then alternator brushes may be bad,
Please confirm only 42,000 miles on this 20 year old S60R.
