Frayed seatbelt replacement? ‘07 V70

Hello,
My ‘07 V70 137k has frayed driver side seatbelt.

Dealer says entire mechanism needs replacement (non-serviceable…). c. $1,000 - $450/parts $550/labor 2 hrs.

Of course I thought I could just replace the belt…

I’d appreciate any perspectives on this.

No its all one piece, an LSU (line serviceable unit). Technically seatbelts need to be replaced following an accident or when significant wear or damage is present. I would source a good serviceable unit from a pick and pull yard, I can't see that costing more than $50 and you can change it yourself easily, or if it's not that bad and you're comfortable with it........just keep driving it as is.

Good used seatbelt is about $65 on eBay...

I just replaced my drivers seat belt (it jammed) and it was $250 for the part from the dealer (shipped & tax included) (for my pre-facelift car, didn't price the later belts they are all different).

Getting the trim out is a bit fiddly (watched YouTube video), but the seatbelt itself is just 2 bolts, one connector, and a pin. With the battery disconnected to avoid SRS warning.

There is company on eBay that will service the belts and can change the webbing (and color).
