Loss of abs/traction control and one set of drive wheels 30/04 xc

Post by Crowboy66 »

I love my XC, it’s my second one…..But I have spent thousands trying to track down what is causing it to throw abs/traction control/ loss of brakes…. I lose one set of drive wheels and most of my gauges.
I think it is moisture related… As in whatever control modules get wet and when the weather warms up or getting the car out for a long drive turns that water to vapor.
Sometimes it’s as simple as pulling in and parking and turning it off and back on and other times it takes over night….very hot weather and it won’t reset.
I’ve spent a lot of money trying to figure it out.
The place I spent the most with replaced the computer and it did nothing… I remember a long time ago I read something about the abs module had bad soldering that was temperature sensitive.
Any ideas…. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’ve been kinda trapped in portland since COVID as I don’t quite trust her for long distance.
Thanks!

vida would help tracking it down, xmodex can reflow solder and test the abs unit,
but i would look for abs codes first.
a bad wheel sensor can cause all sorts of other problems, trans shifting etc.

Hey…. Thanks for replying….I don’t know vida or xmodex…great info because I’m having all of those other symptoms…
Unfortunately my workplace has been going through an extended slow down and a certain shop took all of my money.
I can’t pay for another exploration…
Think I should buy 05 parts and have those area replaced and can I do it myself.?
I’ve always worked on my cars, but if it needs a lift then I need help

this needs clarification, a new computer costs thousands, its rarely done.
you should ask for the old parts back and which codes they pulled.

if you hve a laptop with 4MB ram, I think you can DL vida free here, then you just need a JRL cable to connect to your cars port.
