Hello,
I recently pulled my hood release... and disaster. Nothing happened. It turned out I was lucky: the crimp on the end pulled off, so I was still able to open the hood with pliars. I couldn't get a replacement cable in good time, so instead just crimped a new end on the old cable. Obviously I'm worried about how weak it might be getting, so decided to add "emergency" opening cables which are accessible from outside the hood.
You could run these cables into the passenger compartment if you wanted even, I didn't bother though.
The attached PDF has all the images (was just easier this way). It doesn't detail the complete cable replacement because I didn't do that - you can see the fill detail in Haynes or VADIS. This covers bumper & headlight removal, along with how I got to the latches.
Takes a few hours of leisurely work, cost $0 - $10 (depending if you need to buy a bicycle cable or not).
Regards.
