Car: 2004 V70 NA - 98,000 miles
About 3 months ago I had a soft noise when turning the steering wheel to the left or right at idle or low speeds. I replaced the old power fluid with Mobil1 Dexron III and it went away.
Now, after 3 months, the noise is back and but the fluid is still clear.
I'm suspecting the power steering pump, but I'm not sure.
Anybody else experienced this before?

The specifications just say ATF fluid, so I assumed Dexron III.

Thank you guys for pointing me in the right direction.
Last Saturday I flushed my power steering fluid with Pentosin CHF202 and the noise has gone away.
CHF202 is the new an improved version of CHF 21S, and it is cheaper too. I bought it at O'Reilly for $16 per bottle (1 liter).
Flushing this system can be done by one man, but if you have an extra pair of hands available use them. When flushing, the fluid comes out very fast and it is only 1 or 1,5 liters you have to get out. It just took a few seconds. You need to have 2 new bottles of CHF 202 ready to fill. All together I used 1 and 3/4 of the new CHF 202.

I have the same story, bought a C70 that had no noise at all; when I picked it up to drive it home, the guy had topped up the power steering fluid with dextron. By the time I got home, it was noisy. Flushed it with the CHF202 and good as new.

another power steering post...good.
if our owners manuals are telling us to use ATF, then what is this Pentosin CHF202?
like in another post i just did a drain and fill with actual power steering fluid... but don't want to wreck my p/s....
