“Last Saturday I flushed my power steering fluid with Pentosin CHF202 and the noise has gone away.
CHF202 is the new an improved version of CHF 21S, and it is cheaper too. I bought it at O’Reilly for $16 per bottle (1 liter).
Flushing this system can be done by one man, but if you have an extra pair of hands available use them. When flushing, the fluid comes out very fast and it is only 1 or 1,5 liters you have to get out. It just took a few seconds. You need to have 2 new bottles of CHF 202 ready to fill. All together I used 1 and 3/4 of the new CHF 202.”

RE: POWER STEERING NOISE AT LOW SPEED
RE: POWER STEERING NOISE AT LOW SPEED
if our owners manuals are telling us to use ATF, then what is this Pentosin CHF202?
like in another post i just did a drain and fill with actual power steering fluid… but don’t want to wreck my p/s….
STEERING IS TOUGHER TO TURN AT LOW SPEED
On my recently acquired Volvo XC70 2005 (225k kms) I find the steering is much tougher to turn when going to low speed. Going to mid speed and up the steering feels great. I dont hear any noise and I have not noticed any leaks.
Is this actually normal ? If not what can I verify on my wagon to make sure everything is good.
Thanks guys !

Also, there’s a nasty smell from the engine bay.
Mine’s a 2000 V70 2.5 diesel, btw.
What kind of noise was there before you did the flush?
My power steering just went kaput. The steering felt crap, so I checked the reservoir, and there was no fluid. I filled the reservoir, but steering feels the same.
There’s been a rattle at idle/low speed for about a week, which I’ve assumed was from the engine – could that have been something to do with my power steering?
Thanks,
Mark
