I am replacing the transfer case (angle gear) i pulled the old splined sleeve out. in the process of doing that i messed up and pushed against the inside (where the axle slides in) and pushed the "cup" "seal" (dont know what it is) into the trans.
from what i can see its just a cup that sits over the spline that the axle slides into and keeps the trans fluid in but i cant seem to find it on and exploded view or figure out how to fix it without taking the whole trans out.

the "cup" in question is attached to the end of the magnet in the pic. the splined sleeve for the angle gear isnt in yet. I took the driver side axle out and there is the same "cup" on that side also.

If it can go in, it would come out the same way.
Use two telescope magnet like a chopstick to help it travel outward few mm at at time.

The problem isn't getting it out. It's getting it back on the shaft. It doesn't go in the shaft. It goes around the outside of the shaft in the trans.

I'm having such a hard time finding this part for you. If you can take it out and take a picture it will help me help you. Anything to show it from angles and where it goes will help.

The picture on post right now makes it look like a beer bottle cap . If you could take it out and place it on or near the shaft it goes on it might make more sense.

That's the problem...it won't come out. It is IN the trans. Ive talked to 3 different Volvo dealerships and even had them send me exploded views but this cap isn't in any pictures or even listed. I tryed the magnet idea and it went only a 1/2mm or so and won't stay on the shaft. It doesn't fit in the splined sleeve that the axle slides into it fits over it. It "caps" axle sleeve on the inside. At this point the only option I can see is to take the trans out and open it up and tap that cap on unless someone else can steer me in a different direction.
The beer bottle look you are talking about is the spines were the axle sits. The outer spine is where the angle gear sleeve fits.

If its the part that the magnet is touching it looks like metal to me. If you have a welder you could use a rod and spot weld it to the piece and pull it out. Technically you could jb weld a piece of rod to it as well.

Also try long needle nose pliers or a hemostat.

AH haaa- I blew up the picture. I can see a flat metal piece below the teeth.
Is it connected to the teeth in any way?
