- I just saw a broken prong on the exhaust attachment to the rubber mount as in the photo below.
- Should I go to muffler shop so they can weld another prong?
- Or should I buy the Part #27 (Volvo PN 30681626 $30 or so on ebay), which is designed for the front part of the muffler, but improvise and use it for where the prong is broken?

Can't see the pic, but for the bracket in between the two mufflers the volvo parts works just great. check as well the bracket at the rear muffler tip, may be on the way as well

I had the same issue on my XC90 about 10 years ago in the same location. I feared the bill, the corner shop called and said they were done, $40. They cut a piece of common rebar to size and welded it on - again 10 years ago. From what the shop tech told me it a common way they handle broken hangers. A muffler shop will have no issue making the repair, it is just a matter of how fair a shop they are. To me $40 was a good value as they had to put the car on the hoist, cut the rebar and weld - at least 30 minutes in and out.

The bracket works fine. As much as I like Volvo parts, it's just a piece of metal so I am using the $20 URO version now.

Thanks!
Just ordered the $20 metal clamp.
Will post some photos later this week.
I can tell the P.O. never washed the chassis in the Spring. I usually wash the chassis in April to get rid of the salt.

- Thank you all for the replies.
- Bought the $23 Exhaust Clamps on ebay, it worked perfect. Go to ebay and search "Volvo 30681626", you will see a seller as shown in the photo "brementech".
- The part is made by MTC (Mission Trading Co), probably Chinese in origin, but this is the only MTC part I feel comfortable buying LOL.
- Car RIGHT side on wood ramps. Some lubricant will help remove the old broken prongs and also with new prongs insertion.
- The Screw Jack is too tall, so I used by Scissor Jack. Crank it upward, as high as you can, don't force it too much. See the photos.
- Spread the clamp a bit so you can slide it around the Exhaust. I like the bolt to be on driver's side.
- I used a C-Clamp to bring the ends together, this way the bolt can engage the threads. I used Red Loctite too.
Just tighten it until it is nice and tight (when both ends are about 1-2 mm apart), do NOT overtorque it.
- Test drive was perfect, no more clanking noise when the Exhaust hit the broken ends.
- The best $23 spent LOL!!!

FYI for others - part is only $32 at FCP including lifetime replacement warranty (although they don't state who makes it), maybe not a bad option for a rust belt item https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 0-30681626

The original post was for a 2004 V70.
The same Exhaust Bracket (this time I bought from FCPEuro dot com) also fits the 2005 XC90 2.5T with 120K.
The photos below are from 2005 XC90...
- R prong still OK.
- L prong rusted and broken off.
- Use a pair of Vise-Grips to squeeze it before installing the 10-mm bolt.
- Use a bit of water +soap mixture to slide the ends into the rubber mounts.
- I also used a bit of Red Loctite on the bolt. Take it easy and don't over-torque the bolt.
