Hi, I have a bit of an urgent question about a fastener size. I noticed an exhaust leak on my 2001 V70 T5 and have located the source. One of the upper bolts from the turbo scroll to the exhaust manifold has departed. Anyone know the size so that I can replace and fix the redneck exhaust sound before I fly out for work this weekend?
And is there a loctite that will handle this temperature?
And has this happened to anyone else? I’d think those bolts never want to back out given the rust, but only 3 out of 4 agreed with me. The other is a rebel.

Agree that it is usually M8x1.25.
Are we talking about a bolt, nut or stud? I thought it was a stud with a nut configuration. The stud stays in the manifold, bolt comes out. Sometimes they will come out together and torquing them back in and getting them to stay can be an issue. Maybe I am confused as to what you are asking.
The nut has to be of the pinched design so it will not back out. Loctite is not used. May be worth calling the dealer or stopping at an exhaust shop if you have no joy at your local places.

It certainly appears to be a hex head capscrew, or bolt. It is not a head to manifold connection. It’s the manifold to turbo connection. So I’m making noises and losing power too.

And that’s all iron there, so a grade 8 steel bolt or stainless? I’d worry about the stainless stretching in that application.

Could you post a picture?
I pulled up countless pictures and I see that the flex pipe to side has what you describe on certain models. Every picture I see has the cast iron portion of the turbo which connects to the turbo having studs and bolts. I pulled up the parts picture from a Volvo site and it shows studs and bolts.
Either we are talking about different parts, or someone changed out what should be there with what they had access to and that may be your issue.
A picture will clear things up.

On non turbo those are pressed in one way studs with a nur on the other side. Good luck removing these studs other than drilling them if there is place for a drill. Or you may ask a garage to use an acteylene torch to melt them. I used some black exhaust bolts, standard bolts will seize the nut and will need to be sheared to remove them again. The nuts at the flamge after the cat converter also go bad.

Here’s what I’m talking about.
See the missing bolt on one side?
But wait, it gets worse. I took the other upper bolt out to show you all. Because it was FINGER LOOSE! So is at least one lower bolt!
Ahhhhhh!

Turbo to exhaust manifold, correct? I think several poster were talking about the turbo outlet to the downpipe.
