P2 2005 V70NAM Tailgate stuck 31253047

Went to open trunk today, no Go.

I can hear very faint solenoid noise in rear.

Fob button not working

Central locking button not working

Handle in rear not working

I may have pinched a bungy cord in the latch - I can see one stuck through window

Hope I don't have to remove tailgate.

I would try to crawl back there and try to remove that bungy cord. Maybe you can cut it and pull out the ends?

Very faint click in the upper roof area behind the C pillar. No noise from the lock solenoid in the trunk.

I think the solenoid has pooped the bed, but could be wiring.

I have no idea how I’m going to get the locked tailgate open

Did you try turning the car key in the tailgate lock?

I just tried this in the covered truck key lock in my S60 and it did unlock and open my trunk, silently, apart from setting off the alarm as I had not done an unlock before.

I was surprised that there was no latch sound or the longer unscrewing sound from the solenoid but that suggests to me that the key is tied directly to the latch mechanism. It released the latch without my needing to operate the trunk release handle.

Hopefully you can turn your key without damaging it.

That would be great.....except.....

in 2004, the V70 tailgate key switch was deleted - orderable as an option, but not on my car.

I spent an hour cleaning every fuse on the REM, and I can hear the trunk lock relay click on the REM, but there is no solenoid noise at all

It looks like I will need a junkyard pathfinder and drill the tailgate to get it open to get to the solenoid.

Nope, bad solenoid. By coming in from the top, using a wedge, I was able to ease the trim down, and push the lock latch from right to left to unlock the tailgate.

It sure is, and great minds think alike...here is the action you have to perform. You are blind doing this from the trim loosened as above , so you have to feel for the white plastic triangular piece and push it from right to left ( car coordinates)

What that does is bring the release latch into line with the plunger, red arrow. You will hear a gear sound when the plastic part moves then a thunk when it’s in place.

You then push the plunger down from up top (easily visible) and Voila!

I might just put a 2 cm hole and plug in this so I can move the white locking lever with a screwdriver if needed, I’ll put dimensions on this up of course
