a made a little mistake... some advice please

Post by cali c70 »

Dear volvoittes
Durring the fix of my dash mounting tabs, i had left my cowl cover off, leaving a corner of the cabin filter exposed to the rain(the hood was closed). The next day i noticed the carpet was a little wet. My main concern is that the water may have overflowed in the ducting. Drilling a small hole to drain it wont be the end of the world, but i would like to know what you all thought.
No jokes please.

I wouldn't worry about. If you run the fan for a few minutes it will evaporate.

Run the AC at its coldest setting with the windows closed and the air on recirculate (no outside air).

The cold AC condenser will draw the humidity to it very quickly and drop it out the drain. I would run it for about 15 minutes and it should be fine. Its better to use the AC to get reid of it so you keep mildew away and do not introduce the moisture to the cabin where it can settle elsewhere.

If it is hot where you live then take it for a drive right away with the fan on high and the windows open (air set to bring outside air in) and you can evaporate it that way.

If it has been more than 3 days without use of the fan in the car please remove the filter and replace it to remove any mildew concerns. If you take the filter out and it is dry and has no smell or mildew present it is ok to put it back in and use it for its normal service life. This will also give you a chance to see inside in case anything else got inside.
