Here's a snapshot of the schematic I have:
87A and 87B both end up at the fuel pump. I couldn't find 20/11 anywhere in the reference, so I don't know what it is. Maybe a probe point?

I just open the controller up, to my surprise it looks so different from the one Lee' posted(https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?p=32573). There is NO mechanical replay inside!
BTW, I seriously doubt that pin is just a ground now.

Great pictures, I think I now know what they did. What is schematically a pair of relays is actually a pair of solid state relays. They ran them in parallel to split the current load since the solid state devices are less forgiving than the contact style relays when it comes to current load.
My conclusion from this is that the relays are likely backward compatible - that is the 4 pin style will fit into the 5 pin socket and work just fine but not the other way around. From looking at the pictures it appears that pin 87 on the other styles and pin 87A on the yellow relay have the same spacing
The pink relay from eEuroparts I don't know about - I've never used one.
sbsuth, have you tried jumpering the socket positions associated with pins 15 and 87(a or b)? If you still don't get fuel pressure then the fuel pump itself is likely bad.

Thanks guys. Sounds like a reasonable conclusion.
My old relay still works. Its just one of the suspects for my intermittent stalling problem and I'd like to swap it out to eliminate it. I've already replaced the fuel pump.
I'll report back on whether the 9434225 relay works as a replacement for my 5-pin jobber.
By the way, the "pink" part (9441029) that didn't work for me has a pair of EM relays. Still not sure what the issue is with that part since it appears to be spec'd for my car.

From that schematic, it looks like a TTL controlled analog switch. Then that pin could be the voltage translator? man, its been 20 years since last time looked at these things.
If your fuel pump is the one needs to be replaced, Walbro is the way to go ($65 shipped). http://www.europartsdirect.com/

BTW, I'm using the 9434225 relay now and works perfectly.

Update: I got a little red 9434225 relay, and it works like a charm. I'll keep the old yellow one as a spare.
I replaced the fuel system relay (the one by the radiator) at the same time for good measure. Hopefully by tomorrow the stalling problem will just be a bad memory.
Thanks for your help guys!

Update Status? problem solved?
I am having intermittent stalling on my 98 V70R. Hoping it is this simple to fix because I am dreading dropping the rear AWD/suspension to replace my pump.

If you suspect the relay just take a paper clip and jumper it out of the circuit. Put the jumper between the socket positions associated with pins 15 and 87. They are the pins that are perpendicular to each other.
You can cut a hole in the floorboard to get to the fuel pump but I think I would be inclined to bite the bullet and drop the tank if it were me and I was facing a fuel pump change in an XC. I suck at bodywork and I would not be comfortable welding it back with my MIG on top of the gas tank.
