850 1997 starting problem

I turned off 850 volvo & it appeared to be running fine. 4 hours later it would not start. The starter appeared to be operating properly but the engine would not turn over. I checked battery terminals & oil level - appeared to be ok. Engine tries to turn over but it won't fully engage.

Before we can help we need to know the model and year of Volvo. The 850 wasn't produced in 1987. Let us know and we'll try to help you sort it out.
