s80 T6 2000 Replaced radiator, now water in trainy

Post by Josh »

Hello MVS, Just replaced my radiator (aftermarket I think) now there is oil and water both in my radiator and transmission. I have the mechanic drain the the trans, replace, fluid, filter and gasquet. I am still having the same prob, does any one knows what could have gone wrong and the remedy? Thank you.

Your transmission cooler in the new radiator is bad. The transmission cooling lines need to be disconnected and then pressure test the radiators internal transmission cooler. Find a good radiator and replace if needed. The engine must b e flushed completely to remove any trans fluid that may have touched the block as it limits the engines ability to cool. You must also flush the transmission as well to remove all coolant.

It is important to test the radiators trans cooler before installation . The flushes are needed and the transmission flush is epecially time sensitve as the cooant will effect the clutches and cause rust inside the trans. Flush the engine before running.

To test the rad trans cooler fill the rad up and then se if it leaks out the now disconnected trans lines. If not then put a plug in one of the two trans ine ports on the rad and apply air pressure to the other side (max 20psi) you shoud see bubbles come up from the coolant.
