t4 v40 1998 orange triangle light with a pedal comes

Each time l put my foot down an orange light with a pedal comes on.There is a slight rattle,which sounds like a heat sheild but only comes on when l deaccelarate or after u rev it.sounds like a faulty dump valve,but l dont think it has one.Please help

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

What does the owner's handbook say about the light? I would suspect it is something to do with brakes.

The rattle is most likely a heat shield as they have always been a source of rattles on Volvos. They make themselves heard on deceleration and revving as you describe. It is rare that they rattle continuously.

Thanks for ur reply and for the welcome,l dont av a menu for it and the light comes on when l accelarate hard.The light is orange and green in side with a something that looks like a pedal in black.There is a very slight hesitation at times when l accelarate

Your description makes me think it is the Lambda light, otherwise known as the engine management light. It is telling you that there is a possible problem.

Find a garage that can read fault codes on your car and have them check. Most independents in the UK have access to an OBD11 reader so you shouldn't have too much bother getting it done.
