crank shaft position with timing belt

Post by kv893t »

i have just replace the headgasket on 95 glt 850 sedan and have reassemble all parts.when i turn the crank shaft i could only turn it a little
before i hit something i think it's a valve.so i turn it counter clock and i can turn is maybe a 1/4 turn then hit something.does anyone have any ideas on what to try next.other than taking the crank cover off again.

Everything needs to be lined up to the timing marks before the head goes on. If you are way off the only thing you can do is take the head off again, get the crank shaft lined up with its mark, and then lock the cams in their #1 TDC position prior to torquing the head down.

If you don't have a Haynes Manual go buy one, it shows how to make the tools to lock the cams in the correct position to re-install the head.

+1, you're lucky nothing got messed up while you were torquing everything down. Pull the head, line everything up correctly, reinstall the head.

Double check all of your marks.

Do you have the spark plugs out? You may just be hitting a compression stroke.

Please back up and describe everything you have done thus far with particular emphasis on where the timing marks were coming off and going on. Also describe which camshaft slot was above and below the casting on the lower head when you locked them down.
