I have a 2000 S40 1.9T sedan with which I am experiencing some recent oddities. It began with the engine revving somewhat, mostly during city driving. I also notice the lights dimming and the temperature gauge drops or climbs. the cooling fan runs also. The "Check Engine" light came on and the revving became more frequent. Then I had it backfire and since then it is hard to start. I had the codes read and the only one is P0118 (I think) about the upper temperature sensor. I had just replaced it about two months ago. If I drive short distances, it is extremely hard to start, and when it does the RPMs race to over 4000. And now today, the radio (sound) is cutting in and out (maybe unrelated).
Recenly, also, I have replaced spark plugs, both coils and wires, air filter, oil and oil filter, thermostat. From reading here, I think it is the MAF. If so, what do I use to clean it.

I am not sure where in Indiana you are, but I am in southern Indiana and I have a spare MAF that was in my 2002 s40 when I bought it that I would let you borrow and see if that fixes your car. Im in Greenville if I can help.

I might need to try it. I ordered som MAF cleaner from www.ipdusa.com. Let's see if that will help. Thanks for your offer. I will post back with results.
