For several months until very recently, our S80 made an occasional creaking sound in the rear rightside as if a strut, spar, or something like that might be damaged or possibly bust. It was a momentary creak that was only audible when driving slowly out of the garage down a small kerb or down the ramp in my city parking garage as the car rocked slightly in motion (and then there might be more than one creak).
This morning, as I drove to our excellent local VOLVO dealership for an oil change and to have the creak inspected, the car was totally silent -- how's that for Murphy's Law?! The dealership just called me to say they cannot hear anything at all and that they have visually inspected the entire rear and see nothing either.
I know I am not imagining this because my kids who sit in the back most of the time pointed the creaking sound out to me originally and they have asked peridoically when it is going to be fixed. What could this sound be?
Thanks!

How to identify creaking sound in rear?
Check delta links (rear control arms) where they are connected to each other is one place to look. But where they are connected to the frame is a much more likely spot for noise rear sounds. A flash light and some time crawling underneath your car will provide a clue. There is not a whole lot back there but the work is a pain. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=23893 Check out the problem I had last week.
