S60 Gas filter or pump problem

i have an volvo s60 and i have a check engine light on the car seems to be running a little rough and doesnt seem to be pushing any gas to the ingine when i accelerate i can put it into reverse and drive and park so i know the transmission is switching gears. what could be the problem?
