99 V70 T5 tracking down a PO442 code

Post by ahuggard »

I know this subject has been around the block a few times, but I need a bit of advice that I didn't see in the other threads.

Here's the rundown:

Had a PO446 code and replaced:
1. The gas cap
2. Hoses to the charcoal canister (J-tube and other L-shaped tube)
3. Hoses in the engine compartment
4. Purge valve by the rad.

It is now throwing a PO442 code. I think I read somewhere that this happens occasionally by a fuel sender gasket gone bad. How do I access this? Has anyone done this before? Any advice?

Thanks,
Alex

Misha,

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean the harder plastic hoses in addition to the two more pliable ones that attach directly to the charcoal canister (I replaced those) near the right rear wheel? I did not replace those. Is there a way to test them?

No they are not plastic hoses, they are rubber hoses.I tried to upload a picture for you,but for some reason it is impossible.

The hoses are located in fuel filter area at right rear wheel.I'm not talking about the hoses atached TO and FROM the fuel filter, but if you look in there, there is no chance that you will miss them.

Misha,

I think those are the ones that I replaced. They connect to the charcoal canister, not the fuel filter, right? The one looks like a short "J" and the other is a bit longer and looks like a skewed "L". Those are normally the main culprits in a evap. emissions code like PO442.

What do you think about the fuel sender gasket? Do you think that could be a problem?

Thanks,
Alex

No,the hose i'm talking about is a normal hose, not shaped "L" or "J",it's attached at something that looks like a fuel pressure regulator at right rear wheel, just near the fuel filter area.

About fuel sender gasket...i don't think that is your problem, because if it is, you would have a gas leak(when your fuel tank is full) at that gasket, since the fuel sender is in the fuel tank just like fuel pump assembly.

Thanks, Misha. I'll check it out tomorrow morning and hopefully it will pass the emissions test (it's due tomorrow). I'll post back with my success or failure.
