Rough running 164e

Post by Sctncin »

When my 164e is cold it starts and runs fine but after driving for awhile, shutting the off and then restarting after it's hot the cars runs like crap. It seems like it's being straved of fuel. After a few minutes of this then it seems to run fine again? I've herd it could be the check valve not keeping fuel pressure and someone else said it could be my valves not setting properly. Anyone else with a 164e have this problem?

I had a 164e back in late 80's. Loved it so much it made me crazy. My Fuel infection system was always going wack on me - I would be driving down the highway and all the sudden black smoke - running super rich - stop - play with components and voila - everything fine. I eventually custom converted it to duel SU carbs and had somewhat fewer problems but dear lordy lordy lordy. If I had any recommendations on intermittent FI probelms on 164e- make sure all of your grounds are rock solid - especially the honker from the battery. That can be a source of bizarro world.
Good luck!
