After repairing the heater damper input shaft behind the glove box on my '93 850, the SRS light is on. I had to push wires aside to remove the motor mounting screws, but didn't unplug anything, including the damper motor, which I left connected electrically, just hanging while I worked on the shaft.
I've tried pressing together any connectors in that area, but the light is still on. I presume that means an open circuit that would interfere with SRS functioning. All suggestions appreciated!

The SRS coming on doesn't necessarily mean there is an open circuit at the moment. It's possible that something came unplugged while you were working down there or came loose and although it may be connected now the fact that it was loose earlier set the SRS light off. Did you have the battery disconnected when you were doing this? If not, then you probably just need to have the light reset at a dealership which won't be cheap since a regular scanner won't be able to do it.

Well...
Of course, double-check all the connections. But It's pretty much like polskamafia mjl said.
Unfortunately, if it's anything like the S80, the SRS codes are pretty much latched in once they occur, even if the condition is repaired.
You can try a local repair shop you trust to see if they can clear the codes, otherwise it may be a trip to the dealer to reset it.
There is a tool for the S80 that will reset the codes, but it costs more than one trip to the dealer (200 for the tool, 120 for the dealer to turn it off)

(You might have the OBDI port instead of the later OBDII, in which case this definitely will not work. But, never hurts to check with them to see if they have something.)

You can just reset yourself (port B-5), but you might want to read the code(s) first.JimBee wrote:on my '93 850, the SRS light is on

Hey, thanks, gentlemen! In 11 months owning my '93 850 I have only had to (try to) read a code once. That was the "service vehicle"; I couldn't get the light to go off, tho it does by itself after 2 minutes.
Now, I've got a reason to get more familiar with how to do it.
Thank you, thank you for the suggestions.

For what it's worth...... I had the same kind of issue. Come to find out, that when I reinstalled the glove box I somehow disconnected the orange wire directly from the air bag. Plugged it back in and then cleared the code. Was good to go.

I love having a pre-OBD 850 and not needing special tools or lots of money to read my codes. I think these are also listed in the Haynes manual. I know the A/C codes and CEL codes are.
Much as I love my S80, I really miss the old 850.
(Make sure you change that timing belt...I didn't...)
Forgot all about the modules under the hood! Sure wish they'd kept that with the later models.
Thanks for he info.
