s80, 2000, low oil pressure light

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

s80, 2000, low oil pressure light

Post by Doodle05 »

I JUST had my transmission completely rebuilt, only to have my check engine light and low oil pressure light come on on my way home. I checked the dipstick and the oil didn't appear to be low. The oil pressure light comes on when I am idling, goes away as soon as I start moving again.

Autozone said check engine light was p0137 and I needed an oxygen sensor.

The dealer says the check engine light just wasn't reset from when the transmission was replaced. They said that the oil pressure problem can be fixed by replacing a tube and o-rings in the oil pan pickup (or something to that effect). They want to charge $880.

Is that a reasonable cost for this work?

I understand that it is likely labor intensive...I was hoping it was just the sensor.

Other details: 108K miles, makes a new whirring/fan/air sound since the transmission replacement that is louder the more I accelerate.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Also, does the engine need to be making a noise/knocking/ticking sound to indicate this service is needed?

You will get air bubbles on your engine oil dipstick when you have oil sump seal issues. This will cause a ticking noise eventually and low oil pressure. The parts for this repair are cheap, the labor is not.

Thanks for your reply. I did not notice any bubbles on the dipstick...wondering if I should get a second opinion? $880 is pretty steep, even for a dealer.
